"Here is a piece I did for my November
2010 pastel class.  I started with a
pencil value sketch to establish lights
and darks.  I then moved to the pastel
paper and blocked in the light and dark
values in pastel.  I continued to layer
the pastel to the finished work,
continually referring to my first value
sketch to maintain the correct values."
